Notes and hymn texts for the Sunday and Festal Lectionary

Welcome to “Blossom Forth With Joyful Praise,” a website created to assist Roman Catholic pastoral musicians in preparation and music planning.

Each Sunday and Feast is provided with:

(1)   a list of the readings prescribed by the Roman Lectionary;
(2)   a commentary on the readings, showing the connection intended by the lectionary framers utilizing the device called “typology;”
(3)   a quotation from one of the Fathers of the Church about the reading/s;
(4)   a hymn, based on the readings provided;
(5)   a translation of the propers assigned to each Sunday in the Roman Gradual; and
(6)   suggested propers for the Sunday from the Simple Gradual, with page references to “By Flowing Waters” (pub. The Liturgical Press), provided by Dr. Paul F. Ford.

  In the festive portions of the Year, each Sunday will also give references for the celebration of Evening Prayer I, Morning Prayer, and Evening Prayer II.
